What is plain English? 

Plain English is a style of communication that uses easy to understand, plain language with an emphasis on clarity, brevity, and avoidance of overly complex vocabulary. 

Learning a foreign language can be fun but very hard work. There are now plenty of resources and materials available either in a formal classroom setting or on online to master the basics. However, all these provide are the basic building blocks for understanding a language. It is a very different skill to be able to speak and read every day in English with meaning and confidence.

 

In global business being able to communicate in the English language is essential. According to a 2014 study, people wanting more career chances and a higher salary need to make a determined effort to learn English.  And that a lack of proficiency in the language can become a barrier to promotion.

To be honest, I worked very hard when learning the language at school and got satisfactory test scores. But I can't speak fluently and confidently when I have to talk with a native English speaker.  And, what's more I sometimes can't understand the English news on TV.
